That is what this is on the surface, and that is what it will be played up as being. But truthfully, this is simply a cold, hard business decision. The NBA was facing an open revolt from the players and sponsors if it didn't go to this extreme. Still very much the right decision though.

The NBA likely does, however we will most certainly see that challenged in court, I think. The difficulty in comparing to what MLB did with Marge Schott is the fact that the NBA does not have an anti-trust exemption like baseball. If Sterling wishes to make a fight of it, this could be years - if not a decade - away from resolution.
