I think while rap has been pretty innovative within the studio and in terms of production, etc, it will never be able to touch other forms of music in live performance. There is something about bands being able to reproduce their songs on the spot, spontaneously, with variations, jams, that to me, is essential to the magic of the live experience. I dont think rap can really achieve that.
