the only way i can think of to get this crap out of the game are that the intent to injure plays (headshots, exuberant boarding, kneeing, etc) have a double major penalty.
10 minutes assessed of penalized time, regardless of how many times the opposing team scores. Make the penalty so detrimental to the team that the entire organization has to live with the liability of these players. you'll very soon see players like this extinct, and players much MUCH less willing to cross that line.
Penalize the entire organization for such behaviour, not just the individual, and you will see results.
at the moment the wild should be quite content in a barrie/cooke trade off, which is absolute rubbish. The wild being penalized for 10 minutes essentially costs them the game and series at that point.
