I believe that the pathway along the river would be your best bet. It has been years since I have been down that way, but looking at Google Maps (with the "bicycling" option selected to highlight the pathways), you should be able to use the pathways for the majority of the route. Probably not the most direct or efficient way, but it'll keep you away from cars at least. I'm not sure how much of that route was damaged by flooding, and if it was, how much has been repaired.
