Yeah, we might be near playoff contention, but then again we might even regress, and I'd feel a lot less awful if we lost out on a potentially high return on the 2015 1st rather than a chance at McDavid.

I hear what you're getting at and I know you don't want the team to tank either. My post wasn't just pointed at you but, I would almost feel greasy with the 1st overall pick. It means your team is ####.
Montreal picked 3rd overall and selected Galchenyuk 2 years ago. The year after they are back in the playoffs and find themselves in the playoffs again this year.
It can happen like that, and you don't have to always be looking forward to the draft like we have in recent years. It would be awesome to be excited about hockey after game 82.
