Not defending anyone here but from what I heard, the kid worked at Safeway as a clerk and showed up still in his smock?
If so, I know back in the day when I worked at Safeway, we had box cutters to open everything while doing stock. Many a times I put my cutter in my pocket or smock and walked out of the store with it totally forgetting I had it on me.
Not saying this is the case, but it makes me wonder if the weapon he brought with him was actually just his box cutter which potentially, a few Safeway employees would have on them right now and whether he intentionally brought it or just had it on him from after work.
