From all of the articles I've read about this, one contained an opinion from a mental health expert that "there's always a reason" but that reason does not have to be tied to the people killed. Something going wrong in the person's life can be taken out on others even though they have nothing to do with the perpetrator's problems-- but there is a reason.

I think its natural to search for a reason-- someone doesn't just snap and stab 5 people to death for no reason, right? I think it would disturb me more if the reason is not tied to something those 5 had to do with his perceived issues.

All we can do is sit back and see where the investigation leads. In the mean time, I consider the perpetrator's parents victims in this as well. They seem like upstanding people. The father's statement rang true to me. Making such a statement is better than staying silent.
