Right now, the veteran IS removed. The vet doesn't NEED to be removed. IS. For the time being.

The question is, how to fill that hole going forward?

Re-sign Cammy to his demanded price and term, whatever that may be?

Leave that spot vacant and allow a dog fight for it?

Or find a temporary plug to fill the hole until someone is ready?

But to go on about a rookie being handed the spot is nonsense and isn't going to happen.

If a rookie comes out of the dogfight and get the top6 spot, whether we think they are ready or not, is quite possible and isn't necessarily wrong.

The NHL is getting younger.. Deal with it.
Agree, he IS removed. But the choice is to replace him or not. The argument not to replace him (or re-sign him safe diff) with a veteran player remains the same. Many on here suggest you don't replace Cammy to "make room". Bad idea.

One the Flames likely HAVE to either re-sign or replace him to hit the cap floor. But even if that wasn't the case, you want the youngsters competing for the spot and pushing vets out.

"The NHL is getting younger" is such a catch phrase that means nothing really. While true, it's getting younger because IMPACT YOUNG players have proven they are the better option than the vets that are the alternative option. Youth for the sake of youth is useless. Youth that is capable of legitimately being the best option for you club because there aren't any veterans out there who can do it better is the way to win and have continued success in this league. Playing young players that couldn't win their spots against veteran options is not the way you win in this league, that's just being young for the sake of it.
