How about this? We offer you a 3 year deal for $6.5 per year with a no-trade clause. Approaching the next trade deadline, if you are unhappy with where the team is at and want to be traded, come to me with a list of teams and we'll make it happen this time. We'll be able to get more for you cause we'll retain a big chunk of your cap hit and you'll be more than a rental player. Plus we've established from this year's trade deadline that we want value for you and you showed after the deadline that you're worth it. One of the contenders is going to get knocked out in the first round this year and they're going to tell themselves that they should have gone after cammy cause he would have made the difference in the series... They won't make the same mistake next year.
If everything goes right, you'll get more money and get to pick amongst the true contenders half-way through the season instead of guessing on July 1st which teams will be good next year. I know you can easily pick Pitts do be a contender but a lot can happen early in a season... Crosby and malkin could get injured 2 weeks in and they'll be battling just to make the playoffs the rest of the year.
Ideally we would love for us to be in a playoff spot next year and keep you through the whole contract cause you're a valuable player to us and to the development of the kids.

I agree with this post, however if, a big if, Iggy wins the cup I'd rather send this offer his way.
