In my experience in the business world, a back and forth negotiation usually includes a lot of hypotheticals with both parties throwing out things as feelers to get a better sense of what the other sides breaking point is, knowing full well that what they are saying/offering may not be part of the end package.

Do you think McKenzie would have thrown this out there if this was just a feeler and not a final offer though? It's his credibility he puts on the line every time he says something, it's unlikely he'd randomly start venturing into hearsay and hypotheticals.
