The other thing to note is Florida wants to win now. The brought in luongo and said they will try to spend money this offseason.
IMO the man child that is Ekblad is probably the most NHL ready physically and that could also play into the choice.
IIRC the size and physical nature of Barkov was a reason they went with him last season.
