If you have your NAS connected to your Shaw modem, it's a Shaw modem/router combo. You have 2 routers on the same network which is causing the issue.

You can correct this by contacting shaw and having the "bridge" your modem meaning it's just a modem.

Failing that, just buy a switch like you said and plug everything into that.
