The UofC actually endorsed an alternative to the beer gardens this year with "BSD Day of Service", where students can participate in volunteer work in the community.
From what I've heard, the administration isn't too fond of the beer gardens aspect of BSD. It'll be interesting to see how this event effects the future of the on campus beer gardens. The murder happened outside of the campus, and several hours after the beer gardens closed, but given the proximity to the campus, the likelihood the house party was a result of BSD, and of course the possibility of the victims being UCalgary students, there's associate between these murders and BSD.
This could be used as incentive to get rid of BSD for the future, or at least revamp it to different theme outside of intoxication; which is a damn shame since for the majority of participants, it's meant to be a fun social party with no violence intended or sought after.
