It's hard to confirm either way, cause even in the reverse angle we can't really see the puck, but the way Daniel stops there looks to me like the puck ended up behind him on the boards, probably slowed up from snow or he just took the wrong angle to pick up the puck. His primary concern was the puck, not Byron.
