Good point. Although I'm generally okay with Patrick Burke doing it anyway for optics' sake it makes sense to recuse himself.

Also anyone who follows the NHL should know he's not going to get suspended. There have been tons of hits worse than that that doesn't don't get suspensions. They'll blame Sedin for not protecting himself/putting himself in that position. Whether or not you agree with it can be disputed but that's the NHL's stance on these types of plays.
I disagree. A borderline hit that results in an injury and a stretcher, to a star player, has gotten a response. The fact that it didn't here is encouraging, because it signals a new course and new priorities from the DOPS. I have rarely agreed with anything they've done in the past so that's good news. I think they probably should have given Byron a game just as an indication that players should be careful when they're in that danger zone, but that's based on the idea that the outcome of the play (i.e. an injury) is a significant factor in determining discipline.

But if they're not suspending to the injury anymore and just looking at how dangerous the hit was and how intentional the play was, then no suspension is the right call and also, HALLELUJAH! FINALLY! Because the priorities have been screwed up for years. I'm not getting my hopes up yet, of course.
