Some of the reactions are fairly unexpected here.
I don't think anyone here is anointing Gaudreau as the next franchise player. Nobody here is saying he will dominate the NHL and completely turn this organization around by himself.
Everyone here knows his size, and the steep increase in quality of competition he is about to face.
I find it funny that people like to come out and 'remind us' that he has yet to play a single game in he NHL, and that we should temper our expectations. Thanks. For a minute there, I thought Gaudreau was 6'10", as fast as Bure, as tough as McGrattan, and as talented as Gretzky. Thank you for bringing my absolutely crazy personal expectations of this phenom back down to 'reality' - he is 3'2", about as skilled as McGrattan, about as tough as Gretzky, and as fast as today's version of Bure after his extensive knee operations forcing him out of the game. Thank you for throwing the ice-cold water of reality onto my face forcing me to wake up at this 'reality'.
How about some of you just allow us 'simple-minded dreamers' a chance to actually enjoy something for a little bit. I promise not expect more than 'will be interesting to see how he does', but you guys really feel you are doing any fans here a 'service' by trying to extinguish some of the hope that has come from the hype this kid has legitimately EARNED? Nobody here is 'expecting' a franchise player. What we are all hoping for is that he translates well into the NHL, and he is one of the league's (not just Calgary's) most exciting prospect based on what he has accomplished and the obstacles he has overcome.
It has been raining here mixed with snow. If I feel like getting any further ice-cold splashes to wake me up from this, I don't need it from you guys - I will just go outside and look to the heavens, ok?
