You could let every goalie in the league Garth Snow super-size their gear but if they played with the same techniques as Grant Fuhr and goalies prior to that era with today's shooters, the scoreboard would read like a football statline.

Ben Bishop has his numbers because he's good, not because he's big and therefore wears big gear. Reduce his equipment and he'll likely adjust. Keep on reducing it and he will get hurt. So I don't think it's as simple as, "OMFG, his gear is so big. Why so unfair. Hallsy needs more goals."

If people want to see 14-7 games, then nothing needs to be done about today's goalie equipment. What needs to be done is changing the position fundamentally from a rules standpoint, such as not allowing goalies to drop to their knees, not allowing them to leave the crease ever, or making them wear a pirate eye patch at all times.

I, however, feel like goaltending is super entertaining and would prefer continuing watching saves like this on a regular basis:
