I'm not saying I do this often. If I do I make sure I'm not going into the self checkouts unless there are several free machines. I'm also only going in knowing how to scan; at what points it verifies the weight, and knowing any codes for bakery or produce.

Not Superstore this time ... but I get what you're saying here. I should have clarified that I am talking about situations when it is a busy time (not a lot of checkouts and no reasonable expectation that there won't be a line). People who pay attention to the situation they are in aren't the problem here, as far as I'm concerned.

If anything I think it's the people that have no idea how to operate those machines that bog everything down. If you have to have the cashier come help you out every other item ("How do I put in codes?...This item won't scan....Why won't it let me scan the next item?) do everyone a favor and stick to the regular lines.

Again, you don't seem be to be type of person I am complaining about ... I am complaining about the person who pulls in with a cart full of groceries and moves through them at a glacial pace.
"Hmmm ... which one next? Oh, this one. Where's the bar code? Oh. It's here. Let me turn the item as slowly as possible. Oops. I don't want it in that bag. Better take it out. Why won't it let me scan the next item?"

Again, you are not the issue. 20 items isn't a big deal. I am talking about people who take a full cart of groceries through the self-checkout. Like easily two weeks worth of groceries.
