100% based in historical data, but yes of course it is somewhat unreliable because it is an average. Some players go into the NHL and blow their predicted rate out of the water, some fall way short. The stat can't take into account the situation of each individual player (for example, Johnny being such a small player), but is a pretty good starting point for predictions.
