Montreal acquired his rights for an undrafted goalie, what would Calgary have had to give up for him on his own? You could even think of it as two trades, Bourque and a second for Cammy and Ramo for Patrick Holland.

It was pretty much just luck that Ramo was enticed to sign in Calgary and has looked like he has the potential to be a starter. It is for this reason only that the trade seems okay for the Flames, however it could have turned into an amazing trade if Cammalleri was not lost for nothing.
I agree with what you said except the part that it was just luck that Ramo signed with Calgary. It was more or less a caculated gamble by Feaster given his history with Ramo.
