Kenny Agostino on the trade...

“It was looking like he was going to Boston and I thought, ‘That’s kind of cool,’ ” says Agostino, who had been in Grand Rapids, Mich., site of the regionals. “I woke up to go the bathroom around 6:30, 7 a.m., and I look at my phone. It’s been bombarded with 20 missed calls, 50 texts. I look at the first few texts and, all of a sudden, I put it together. I’m, like, ‘Oh my God.’ I woke my roommate up because I was frantic — ‘I just got traded for Jarome Iginla.’ ”

Ben Hanowski on the trade...

He’d been in his apartment preparing for a busy stretch — morning practice, then a flight to Toledo, Ohio, for regionals.

“My phone was blowing up,” says Hanowski. “It took me a while to comprehend what was going on. I had to go on NHL.com to see that it was really happening. I thought my buddies were trying pull a prank on me. But it was for real. An interesting way to wake up.

“At the rink, we’re having our team meeting and our head coach (Bob Motzko) goes: ‘Anyone else get traded for a Hall of Famer last night?’ ”

“Such a big day, such a unique day,” says Hanowski, “that I forgot the actual date. A pretty weird feeling because you’re a college hockey player, more a fan of the game at that point. So to see you’re part of that trade? Almost seems like a fictional story.”

“Time’s really gone by pretty fast,” says Hanowski, who started this campaign with Abbotsford of the American Hockey League. “Seems like yesterday I was playing my first games up here. A fast year for me.”
