I've spoken with some college players (including JG) and the ones who stay in college value things differently (not better, not worse... just different). Most of them figure out that being an athlete in college is a lot of fun. They know once they get in the grind of pro hockey, their entire schedule is dictated by someone else. I've heard from a surprising amount of NHL'ers who went the junior route wishing they went to college instead because of it.
I think the quotes from JG's mom reflects that. And also, very few know what actually goes on in the Gaudreau household.
