Definitely been competitive this year... even if it doesn't get worse, the success of a rebuild typically isn't solely judged by how painful it is, it's what the team achieves in the end.
Give me two or three years of pain for a couple cups every time over one or two semi bad years to get back to being the 6th-8th place team in the west.
While this season has been fun, the team is still missing two or maybe even three high end young players to build a cup contender around.
Now that the Flames are doing the charge of the light brigade through the meaningless home stretch this draft looks less likely to add one. Monahan looks like one of those pieces. Hopefully Gaudreau, Poirier or Baertschi develop into another or Burke is able to add one via trade.
