We hired someone to build a website for us about a year ago, and it was fairly well done. A bit clunky, and not as professionally done as I would have wanted, but still an okay job. Now we want to improve our search results. The designer wants an additional $800 for SEO 'cleanup' as he calls it.

He says he'll do some cleanup and tagging to help push us up the chain. Which is fine, but I'm not sure I want to pay the extra $800 just to do this considering what we already paid him to design it. And we paid a fair bit of money.

What is the going rate these days for SEO optimization, and what kind of results can I expect if it is done with our site?

If someone would be willing to answer a few questions through PM and maybe take a look at the site I could disclose some more information about the project. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
