The objective / subjective thingis a non-issue, but I still disagree with your point about having to entertain cost in the analysis because one option is free. Whether the price is $0.00, $0.10, a buck, or a thousand dollars, it's still a price.

I've been beating the drum all along about Pandora. Pandora's free - technically, I guess, you have to have some wireless capable device to get access to it but that's like saying you need a radio to access 92.9. I can still compare the virtues and vices of an internet radio service like that to satellite - one has a variety of channels, the other has a predictive algorithm to determine what you're going to want to listen to, etc.

Price, data use, the ease of implementing it in a car - those are practical considerations completely separate from the inherent qualities and drawbacks of the product itself. That's stage two - i.e., "Having compared the attributes of these options, I think I want to go with XM. Are there any extraneous considerations that would change my mind about that? Oh it costs 15 bucks a month, well feck off then."

Totally separate analyses.
