The Flames are getting a huge boost to their rebuild in that Giordano is quite literally turning into a No. 1 defenseman and that Brodie is already a top-four guy and headed towards top-two status.
Giordano's always been a solid guy and at his age you'd have to figure he'd hit his ceiling but he's come into his own. He's already a top-pairing guy and could be turning into a No. 1 - his stats this year are absolutely unreal given his situation and circumstances. His next contract will be huge.
Brodie - same story. For a mid-round pick to become a NHLer is great. The fact that he's a top-four guy is even better but honestly he looks like he could become a top pairing guy. That would be a huge coup for a 4th rounder and one less important piece for the Flames to have to acquire down the road. Not sure he'll ever be a 55-point guy but as a two-way d-man he's coming into his own.
When you do a rebuild you'll get a couple or three top-5 picks but that's not enough to get every major piece you need to be a contender down the road (like top pairing defensemen). You NEED to hit a home run or two later in drafts and Brodie is turning into one.
