We should express each deal as a percentage of the cap. He is 7% of the cap in a 70 million dollar cap world. The average Salary is over 3 million on a 23 man roster. If you assume the 4th line and 2 extras will average 700k then you have 3.8 million per player to spend.
So if he is a 3/4 defensemen on a contending team then this is a good deal and inline where the market would be. I haven't seen him play so I can't comment on ability. But the dollars are inline with a 3/4 defensemen.
