The first time I watched the movie, I found it to be average. And then I read the book, and thought the movie really did suck in comparison. But then I watched an extended version of the movie at a friends house after, and actually found it to be actually pretty good the second go around. It was weird. I think you just have to consider the movie as one of the many short stories from the book.
