I don't have time to type out a huge political philosophy here, but I think I would consider myself some kind of "economic libertarian". I just want the government out of my wallet, and out of business in a lot of ways. I want to see the elimination of income tax and base the system entirely on consumption taxes. Curiously, and perhaps paradoxically I don't have a big concern with crown corporations, but the idea of grants and subsidies to private business should be eliminated as well.

On the income tax front, this to me is a completely backwards system. I make more money and probably create more jobs via spending and investment and for that helping hand I pay higher taxes? Seems like a great way to make people not want to earn more money, or at least stay under a threshold! Instead, the system should be based on consumption. The idea that every year we go through this song and dance where I save receipts and pieces of paper so that the government can pay someone to flip through that junk in order to verify that I contributed to my RRSP and what not is ridiculous. A complete waste of money, and it just doesn't have to be that way.

As far as the government subsidies to business, its even more inane. They collect money from say my business, and then give that to a competitor because they have filled out a grant application, or found a project that qualifies for some cash. Or more than likely someone made a donation or attended a political fundraiser to get a plum-contract. Just ridiculous.

Its weird because more and more I just want the government out of a lot of things, but I'm the furthest thing from a Ron Paul or anything like that. I guess I just think that there are some things that the government does, and does well, and there are other things they just get in the way of and should have no part. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be located just right of Hitler on the political scale!
