I'v always had this crazy notion that the problem is voter education.
If voters had to take the time to educate themselves we would attract and elect better people, who could actually effect change on our representative bodies.
I think to be allowed to vote 1 hour of participation/attendance at a debate, Q&A, or info session should be mandatory. Allowing anyone who cares to vote, but reducing the voter pool who just select based on broad notions of the leaders they get from the news, would provide better representation for all of us.
The Danger they would have to avoid with this system is finding a way to make those session easily accessible to the lower/middle class working population. So it is not just Stay at home Moms, College Students, and people with Lobbying interests voting in every election.
either way I really feel out system needs a slight paradigm shift, because on a local level politicians spend so much money getting elected individually and we just end up electing the party.
