Hemsky went for a 3rd +5th, partially because it meant less salary obligation to the Senators. More importantly though, Hemsky is a better player than Cammalleri. Still one dimensional, but provides more than Cammalleri does at a lesser price.
If you pay cammalleri 5 million a year for 2 years and expect to deal him at the deadline on his first year, you will be in tough finding a trade partner because that cap and salary are just outrageous for a player of his type and ability. On this Flames team, he's also not going to be able to shine up a turd, as he doesn't really have anyone to play with.
Maybe you give him a bigger money one year deal and hope a team bites at the rental potential, but in my opinion, term stunts his value especially if he has another lacklustre season next year.
