Basically, fire started, plane turned to land in Langkowi, turned off the systems to try and stop the fire. In the process of restarting them/landing they lose consciousness and the autopilot stays on the same heading until the plane is fuel deprived.

Langkawi would make sense as it is one of Malaysia's most popular resort island. So I can see the airport being a hub that every pilot in Malaysia would know about.
