You folks are so lucky up there in Canada. You don't get FoxNews so you don't have to listen to the assinine garbage that they spew down here. A perfect example is what I listened to at work this morning through one of their radio stations, KFYI.

Michael Moore is doing a speaking engagement for the University of Arizona this evening. FoxNews Radio was all over the university for having the gaul to bring Moore in and pay him (incorrectly quoted) $35,000 to speak. They openly challenged all professors to call in and explain how they can afford to do this when education is in such poor shape. They labelled the university as an "enemy" of democracy and said that they were considering putting together a petition to have the school charter revoked. They said all the professors were communists and don't deserve to be educating the youth of the nation. I was completely floored and it almost made me physically ill. This IN America??? McCarthyism is alive and well at FoxNews.

Now this is not at all surprising for Fox and their hacks. They are completely uninformed in regards to almost anything on the planet and are nothing but a bunch of fear mongering idiots, and in this regard they are just as out to lunch. How is having Michael Moore speaking at the university an afront to democracy and reason to have a learning institutions charter revoked? That's just plain ugly, especially when you consider THE FACTS.

The facts are that the Speakers Board of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona has contracted Moore to come in and speak, like schools all over the nation. His $27,500 appearance fee is standard for a speaker of his ilk (Sean Hannity charges more than that, and is speaking in Phoenix, but they failed to mention this). What these dolts fail to acknowledge is that the Speakers Board of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona is charging $5 a ticket and has sold 10,000 tickets for this event. This is a fund raising opportunity for the Union and is how they afford to keep student government going. But is this obvious "capitalist" venture applauded? No. Fox has the gaul to paint it as a subversive meeting of "enemies of the State" and level threats toward the school who has little to do with the event other than sanctioning it through the student government.

This is the type of crap that Fox pulls all the time. They did it in Florida (running a USF professor out of the country on charges of being a terrorist) and they do it in Arizona. They have a national network of stations, supported through Clear Channel (a communications corp that has multiple stations in every major US market), and have opportunity to spread poison like this as news. How can anyone take them seriously when they distort the facts so badly?

Oh, and here's Yahoo's/US Todays take on it so you can see what "unAmerican activities" are going on in Tucson.

And here is the Arizona Daily Star's take as well.

It should also be noted that the Daily Star also endorsed John Kerry this weekend, so you'll see how biased they are in their reports of Michael Moore's appearance (not).

This is what you have to look forward to. I hope that your sense of fair play doesn't get runover like mine has.
