The worst was this past fall, which I still can't even talk about in detail- one of my son's best friends died on the football field of an adolescent stroke-he was a D1 commit and a wonderful kid at 17, and they protested outside the cemetery. They said 'God hates fags and our football team was being punished because God is mad at humans' My family was at the hospital when this kid was taken off life support. His mom made the courageous decision to donate his organs, and he saved 7 lives and a 13 year old boy received the heart of a champion. The next few days of the wake, the funeral, the grave site- all a blur for his family, us parents and the fellow players. The patriot guard came out by the hundreds to create a barrier between them and us. And we didn't have to see them because of the kindness and compassion and the sheer numbers of the Patriot Guard. Fred Phelps is a despicable man. Hopefully his death will cause an unraveling of the organization.

Unfortunately, I would imagine they will rally around his passing and amp it up in his memory.
