Also have a stick in your hand more than your boy does. He will pick up the game a lot faster than you will and growing up I always enjoyed playing catch with my dad while he was able to use a lacrosse stick more than when we had to switch to baseball glove for him.
Also also learn about stringing sticks if possible. The number 1 problem kids have is that they get sticks from the store that are strung terribly from the factory. Now that Mountain Edge Lacrosse is gone I am not sure if anywhere strings them before putting them on the shelves. I can help you out if you want as well with this

He coach last year was all about the over hand shots, he knew the game really well, played a high level.
Funny that you post about the stick, I bought one last year so we could play catch in the back yard, would do it 2-3 times a week. He was 7 then and was better than me (little eff'r).
Also, we went to some friends and his boy is a bantam player my son brought his stick. First thing this boy did was restring it for him.
