Part sensationalistic media wording, since 911, part truth.
If you're advanced enough in planning and logistics to hijack/steal a fully loaded 777, knowing how and what to shut down as far tracking systems on the plane (and who knows maybe even on the ground with some help) and have a relatively isolated and covert place to land and store it to go undetected from the the entire world, I am sure it and its passengers are not for a trophy room.
If going through all that, surely they have access to jet fuel and other provisions to carry out stage 2 of whatever plans are for it. Probably couldn't go very far now though, if its in the 4-5 hour radius, with all satellites pointed that general direction, tracking systems on the plane disabled or not (though the RR engine data tracking may be something they don't know about)
Lots of IF's in that and still only one theory....but the RR engine data lends creedance to the fact that the plane very much still was fully operational hours later and not at the bottom of the sea.
