Grip is not a huge issue with the leatherman because they flip open, so you are squezing against the open part of the handle, not the smooth case. It's fine for regular use, but if you really need to squeeze hard it can be slightly uncomfortable. Try it in store and you'll see what I mean.

I find the plastic grips on these sorts of tools just add unnesessary bulk. I like the smooth leatherman, slides in and out of the pocket easily.
