Call of Duty started as a PC game so maybe I have a different perspective. I bought CoD 1 & 2 for the multiplayer. The campaign was a nice addition but I don't think I played through them more than twice.

I don't think AAA game budgets need to be as high as they are and tacking on components just to check a generic box on the game features list is unnecessary.

You seem to be okay with BF being a multiplayer only experience so what's wrong with a new IP being multiplayer only? This game is called Titanfall not Call of Duty. Even though Respawn is comprised of industry vets it's still a new and small studio and coming from the co-founder himself budgets were a factor.

I was speaking to my personal preference that I would prefer a campaign if I was going to spend $60 on a game, which is why I am not likely to be rushing out to buy Titanfall tomorrow.

In the bigger scheme I was critiquing the decision on a marketing basis since this is the game that is supposed to catch the XBox One up to the PS4, and be the system seller.

IMO casual gamers still prefer a campaign and story, even if it was just tacked on, and if they hear it is a multiplayer only game it may turn them off to a purchase or make them decide just to stick with the 360 version.

Battlefield was largely a multiplayer only experience on the PC but when they expanded to the console market they decided to tack on a campaign to help with sales to more casual gamers.

Of course hardcore gamers and traditional PC fans will have no issue with multiplayer only games, but if you want a game to be a system seller you usually will try to reach out to the more casual audience.
