That was a nice touch at the end with that Sagan tribute.
As a true Science Expert (which means I sometimes watch shows like this and read total layman books and never passed a science class after high school) I thought it was a great start. They got all the really obvious stuff that everyone should probably already know out of the way in the first episode, so it should get even better.
I did kind of snicker at that rubber looking lizard thing staggering out of the water. I'm sure it was computer generated but it really looked like a puppet.
