He tried to build some ridiculous $4-billion mega multi-use development (called the "
Lighthouse Project"). I have heard one of the biggest reasons he bought the Isles was to use them in leverage in getting such a development done, and then threatened relocating the team in order to try and speed up the process of his project at the municipal government level. My understanding is that Wang had no interest in building an arena if he couldn't get the rest of his development, but I'm not sure about that. The project went to a referendum where locals in the area voted against funding the Lighthouse Project.
