Being that it was Wideman who went down, I'm surprised it wasn't Billins who was called up, given the philosophy of replacing an offensive-oriented defenseman with another from the farm. Not complaining that it was Wotherspoon called up, because I think it will be good to give him a taste, just something I noticed.
Flames roster page says he will wear #56.

That may be normally true but the Flames have an unbalanced defence with 4 offensive defencemen. Ideally I think we need a defensive minded defenceman paired with each offensive defenceman. I'm not saying Giordano and Brodie aren't good at the defensive side but if they were paired with a defensive defenceman, they could take more chances.
That's to come in the future though with Wotherspoon. As you say, he'll probably be paired with Smid and get 5 to 10 minutes of ice time.
