Dammit, those food particles that you are smelling belong to me.
Even better when I'm eating lunch at my desk, and reading CP, or watching NHL highlights or a TV episode of some sort on my tablet, with headphones on.

Then some office dimwit comes over, starts talking to me or asking a question, and then suddenly stops and says "Oh, are you on lunch?"

Well, let's hash this all out. It's 12:00PM. Most of the office is in the staff room, out at the mall, or at their desk eating lunch. I'm sitting here wearing headphones, with CalgaryFlames.com on my computer screen, or my tablet in front of me. I'm clearly not doing any work, and I have a plate of food in front of me, and a fork in my hand. What in the bloody hell do you think I'm doing?!

"Uh, yes, I am."

"Oh ok, sorry. Just a quick question though..."

Do I need a fataing Do Not Disturb sign above my head when I'm on lunch?! Despite all the obvious indicators, I have just confirmed to you that I am, indeed, on my lunch break. Key words...LUNCH BREAK. So no, I do not have the time to answer your "quick question" that is always going to turn into a 5 minute discussion.

And when I decide to be nice and answer your question, then politely say "I'm just on lunch though, can it wait till 1?", don't give me an unamused, slightly sarcastic "Oh...ok...this is really important, but whatever" (paraphrasing) reaction. If you have a work-related emergency that can't wait, it's cool, I'll interrupt my lunch with no issues. But unless the world is coming to an end, don't bug me during my lunch hour!

Another office gear grinder...if you come over and talk to me when I have headphones on, that usually means I'm busy. But I understand, everyone's got a job to get done, and that's fine. But when you come up to me, and I don't hear you approaching, you can see that my focus is on my computer screen. So you obviously know that you had to knock on my desk or wave to get my attention. So when I turn to see who it is, don't just instantly start talking, and then look annoyed when I mute/pause my music and take off my earbuds to listen to what you have to say. If I'm listening to music, chances are that I won't be focused on what you're saying until you give me half a second to take off my headphones!

What do you think I'm doing, sitting there silently with earphones on waiting for Marvin The Martian to give me a call?
