If it's a decent beer company that uses a liner, canned beer should taste as good or better than bottled since it's completely blocked from light. I like holding a bottle better than holding a can, but I'd go for the canned version if both are available and I'm pouring it into a glass anyway.
I think most people only think they prefer the taste of bottled beer since it's traditionally been higher quality to start with and they usually only buy cans of swill for outdoor activities. If people try a few cans of Fat Tire, I think their perceptions would change quickly.
