The thing is, you don't need to reach the floor - the penalty is you pay the difference between your payroll and the floor and it gets divvied up by the players.
Might not sit well with ownership but no harm to the rebuild.
But ya I'd be all for a 1 year deal, I don't know why he'd do that or re-sign with the Flames though.
