I took it as Beth's form of rebellion - her daddy wouldn't let her drink, and now that she was an adult and looking after herself, she wanted a drink. Kind of like how we go out and get blitzed on our 18th birthday. In a world gone crazy, that seemed to be her lifeline to normalcy. Prove a point; I'm a big girl now. I can take care of myself; I can drink like an adult.
That's how I saw it.
