they have commercials during live televised events and that doesn't make the event itself any less real. but watching characters in the show all grizzled up for their roles and then seeing them again immediately in a dress shirt and pants, different hair, different accent, etc. just totally breaks the illusion, and I end up thinking about that real life version of them instead of their character.
the same thing would happen if they did that to Game of Thrones. imagine you've just spent the past hour watching Joffrey be cruel and horrible and you're so worked up and hate him and want him to get skewered...then 5 seconds later he's in his street clothes and super nice and polite and timid, and then you're like oh...well now I don't know what to feel about this guy.
if you're able to completely separate the two in your mind and it doesn't bug you at all, then I'm just jealous because I can't seem to do it.
