Many people have pointed out why you don't go to the bench to get a stick. You continue to argue despite the fact that no one ever in the NHL or any other league above bantam AA would do this. The reasoning is that even without a stick you are blocking the shooting lane. The defender cannot just skate around you like a "pylon" because hockey is a contact sport and he would risk losing possession. The passing lanes open up but to leave your team in a 5 on 3 situation they weren't planning for would lead to a goal against more often then not.
