While I understand where you are coming form, it's not exaclty impossible either.

I didn't say it was impossible, training/experience will do wonders. However, when a poster says:

How many times had you uncle hunted/fired a weapon prior to shooting that bear.
Also, I would guess, but might be wrong, that you uncle if he was honest would say it was not an easy shot, rather it was stressful. This is assuming you uncle was being charged and didn't just pick it off from a hide.
