I've run into moose while mountain biking 6 times. I've never had an issue. I once came down a hill, around a corner and bullwinkle was standing right there. I shat my pants, crashed at his feet, he bolted about 10 feet, then stopped and looked at me. I got up and raced away and didn't feel any of the pain until I got to my truck.
I've also ran into some while back packing. Never had an issue there either. Usually they're more scared and just run away. I can see if it was rutting season, they'd be more aggressive but that's in the fall.
