Why were you in the left lane in the first place?
1. Right lane except to pass.
2. Right lane except to pass.
3. Right lane except to pass.
Which of the above is correct? Oh yah - all of them. "Left lane when I'm more or less alone" didn't even make the list of possible answers. "Left lane unless the other guy goes in the left lane" didn't either.
Consistency is what makes a good, safe driver - not reflexes, not calculating risk, and definitely not worrying about how other people drive. On the highway, stay in the m'fing right lane except to pass. Don't follow too close. Drive an appropriate speed for the road conditions and speed limit. Signal. Make smooth changes in speed and direction. Know what other vehicles are behind you, and in front of you. If you can handle those 6 simple things, you won't suck at driving, because other drivers will be able to infer what you are doing and what you are going to do. Otherwise you will suck, and in most people's cases - already do.
